What is the VAT rate in Saudi Arabia?
The standard VAT rate in Saudi Arabia is 15%. It has applied since 1 July 2020, when it rose from 5%. ZATCA (the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority) administers the tax.
How to add or remove VAT
| You have | Formula |
|---|---|
| Price before VAT | VAT = price × 0.15, total = price × 1.15 |
| Price including VAT | Net price = total ÷ 1.15, VAT = total − net price |
Do not remove VAT by taking 15% off the total: that gives the wrong figure, because the 15% was calculated on the smaller net price.
Example: SAR 1,000 before VAT has SAR 150 VAT, so the total is SAR 1,150. A VAT-inclusive price of SAR 1,150 has a net price of 1,150 ÷ 1.15 = SAR 1,000 and SAR 150 VAT.
