How many annual leave days do employees get in Saudi Arabia?
Under Article 109 of the Saudi Labor Law, every employee is entitled to paid annual leave of:
- 21 days a year during the first five years of service.
- 30 days a year once the employee has completed five consecutive years with the same employer.
The leave is paid in advance at the full wage, and the employee may not give up the leave in exchange for money while still employed.
Leave encashment when you leave your job (Article 111)
If the contract ends before you take your leave, the employer must pay you the wage for the days you have earned but not used. The daily wage is the monthly wage divided by 30.
Example: an employee with 3 years of service has earned 3 × 21 = 63 days and has taken 50, so 13 days remain. With a wage of SAR 9,000, the daily wage is 9,000 ÷ 30 = SAR 300, and the unused days are worth SAR 3,900.
